APEGBC PPE - now computer based

APEGBC PPE Now Computer Based

For those that plan on writing the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE) in British Columbia with APEGBC, the new exam format is now computer-based. Here is what you need to know about the changes and how to increase your odds of passing.

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) Added

multiple choice question

Before the changes, there were 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs) but the new computer-based format will now feature 110.

Ten of those questions will not be scored but evaluated by APEGBC to see if they are difficult enough to include on future exams. You won't know which 10 aren't being scored, so you better give each question your full effort.

NPPE Writing Time

The format is 2.5 hours, to cover 110 multiple-choice questions.  The essay part was dropped after the November 2022 sitting.
Use your 82 seconds per question wisely. If you don't know the answer, come back later to see if you can answer it. Try to think of the answer before looking at the four possibilities.

No study method comes close to helping you understand your weaknesses like trying sample questions, followed by studying the topics that are not too clear to you.

Although full sample exams are not released, there are some questions provided in the mandatory EGBC Law & Ethics Seminar. For the additional practice of 500 challenging NPPE multiple choice questions, use our NPPE Total Prep Course available through this website.

PPE Results and Worldwide Writing Locations

Although the exam is longer, one of the key advantages is that your Pass/Fail results are much faster, promised at 3-4 weeks.  down from 6 weeks. Computers are faster at marking MCQs, but a human must apply a bell curve if necessary.

With the advent of computers, it is now possible to reach more people simultaneously across the globe.  The exam is written online and remotely proctored.

  1. I really like how the exam is online now. All of us work in front of a computer so taking an exam in front of one shouldn’t be challenging to too many people. Plus, computers can mark much faster so results are sent quicker and exam writers can move faster through their licensing hurdles.
