Here is your monthly dose of my Canadian engineering news created for licensed and aspiring engineers, geoscientists and technicians in Canada. Stay informed and impress your colleagues with your newfound knowledge.
- NASA engineer Janelle Wellons is suggesting humans consider settling on Saturn’s moon, Titan. Humans would not need pressure suits to walk on Titan, there is some water, and its thick atmosphere would protect people from radiation.
- Erik Buell, an engineer formerly employed by Harley-Davidson, has founded Fuell, a startup that makes completely electric motorcycles. The first model released will cost $3,300, have a 125-mile range and hit up to 45 kilometres per hour.
- The Smallest Sustainable Washing Machine is lightweight and BPA free, and can clean your socks in 1 minute. It is also an environmentally-friendly alternative to regular washing machines as it uses no electricity and little water.
- Hio key is a password security device with features like quick password-less login to your devices and accounts, and automatically locking your computer when you walk away.
- The Pod Mini is a portable recording booth designed by podcasters. There is room for two adults to comfortably sit in the booth and the interior fabric is quilted to reduce echo and outside sounds.
What technology or gadget are you currently enjoying and would recommend to other aspiring and licensed engineers? Let us know in the comments below.
