- U of T Engineering alumnae Nancy Hill (CivE), Claire Kennedy (ChemE) and Jeannette Southwood (ChemE) are on the Women’s Executive Network Top 100 list of Canada’s Most Powerful Women for 2017. “These inspiring alumnae illustrate the boundless possibilities of an engineering education”, said U of T Engineering Dean Cristina Amon.
- Canadian Astronaut David Saint-Jacques, B.Eng., will be performing innovative experiments at the International Space Station regarding the function of the body’s immune and vascular systems in space, where he will perform near real-time analysis of blood. “Research in space is important if humans are to explore further and for longer periods — especially if humans are ever to set foot on Mars,” he said.
- With 1865% funded for making Pinhole Pro S, Toronto based company Thingyfy is launching this photographic camera pinhole lens, without glass, created using a micro-drill that is only 0.05mm in diameter, that drills a perfectly round and smooth pinhole aperture and it's available for the all the major camera mounts.
- QUARTZ Bottle it's a self-cleaning bottle that purifies water using a UV-C LED light eliminating 99.9999% of bacterial and viral contaminants. With a battery that last up to 3 months, it can endure more than 100k cleaning cycles without using replacement filters. The bottle will be sold at a retail price of $99 USD.
- HomeBiogas 2.0 - An eco-appliance that transforms food waste and animal manure into biogas that needs 115W x 205L x125H cm of space to be installed up to 20 meters from the kitchen. Estimated to be available on Apr 2018, the retail price will be $790 and you'll need a biogas stove to use it.

This month, we look back at some older TED talks that are worth watching today.
- Robots that "show emotion" - In this 2009 talk, David Hanson show us a robots with character. Trobots show various facial expressions, with artificial intelligence / machine intelligence.
- A critical look at geoengineering against climate change - In 2007, environmental scientist David Keith discussed some concerns regarding climate exchange, the growth rate of CO2 in the atmosphere and the role that geoengineering plays in cutting down our emissions.
