Here is your monthly dose of my Canadian engineering news created for licensed and aspiring engineers, geoscientists and technicians in Canada. Stay informed and impress your colleagues with your new-found knowledge.
1. Kit Franklin, an agricultural engineer and Harper Adams University lecturer, is using drones and small machines to improve farming techniques. By making the process safer and reducing large-machines, issues like soil compaction are no longer present.
2. Jill Wetzler, a computer scientist, explains what it took to become the Director of Engineering at Lyft.
1. HEY Bracelet - Giving someone a little hug just got easier. Mark van Rossem and his team from the Netherlands came up with a bracelet that, when touched, sends a gentle squeeze to your partner's bracelet.
2. Mindset: Smart headphones that improve your concentration - If you have trouble tackling your workload, it might be due to too many distractions. A team from Montreal, Quebec, claims this technology helps to re-wire your brain for productivity. It also uses the same technology to train NASA astronauts.
3. Dexter: The robotic arm to end scarcity. Are you building a product in your basement or garage? Maybe you need a personal micro-factory to help you ramp up production so you can get your invention into (insert box store name). If you are, then you might like to consider Dexter, a trainable robotic arm, that can help you with repetitive tasks.
What technology or gadget are you currently enjoying and would recommend to other aspiring and licensed engineers? Let us know in the comments below.
