3 Common NPPE Exam Difficulties

Getting Started

Making that first step can be the hardest.  We recommend you:

  1. Register for the exam with your Association.
  2. Print off all the free syllabus material.  Ordering the law & ethics textbooks is optional (as discussed in the FAQs at the bottom of the page).
  3. Select a trusted online course with a proven track record.

Finding the time

Carving out study time within your busy schedule can be tough.  That's why you need to use it wisely.  With 40 syllabus sub-topics, self-studying is no longer a smart way to use your time.

NPPE confidence

Feeling confident

Are you ready for the exam? Do you know the 40 topics (from I.1 to VI.4) inside and out?  Have you tested yourself with tough practice questions and filled your knowledge gaps?

Our NPPE Exam Total Prep Course has helped 1,000s of aspiring engineers – like you – drastically improve their knowledge to write your exam with confidence.

Here's what you'll receive:

3-12 months of access

You can go through the course at your own pace.  Some people use it to start preparing and learning months in advance – others use it as a last minute cramming tool. With 3, 6 or 12 months of access, you'll have plenty of time to go through the course.  We'll also remind you 1 week before your access expires, to see if you would like to extend your access for a discounted price.

Pass Guarantee or 100% Refund

We're serious about your success.  If you purchase our NPPE course anytime (even the day before the exam) and if you don't pass, we'll give you two great guarantee options (your choice of):

  • - 100% refund (however, this cuts off any remaining course access and support); or
  • - 0% refund + extended access to our course & support until you pass + $30 Amazon.ca gift card to temporarily ease your frustration of almost passing

Unlimited attempts of practice questions

With 170 to 500 total multiple choice questions, you'll have plenty to practice and learn from.  You'll also be able to practice the questions an unlimited number of times while your course access is active.  You can practice the entire pool of questions, or if you're time-constrained, a smaller set (e.g. 25 questions).

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who would like a more efficient way of preparing for their National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE).  To become a licensed engineer/geoscientist, passing the NPPE is a required step for the following Canadian engineering associations:

  • Ontario: PEO
  • Alberta: APEGA and ASET
  • British Columbia: EGBC
  • Manitoba: EGM (formerly APEGM)
  • New Brunswick: APEGNB
  • Newfoundland & Labrador: PEGNL
  • Northwest Territories & Nunavut: NAPEG
  • Nova Scotia: Engineers Nova Scotia
  • PEI: Engineers PEI
  • Yukon: APEY

Regrettably, the above associations don't release much in terms of sample/old exams for practising (as this would require a lot of extra work to come up with new questions 5 times a year). Luckily, we are independent of these associations and we have developed our own practice questions based on the exam scope and syllabus.

Who is your instructor?

My name is Gavin Simone, P.Eng., and I've created this straightforward course because I understand how it feels to try to balance studying with a full-time job and family.

I've laid out a proven study method to take you step-by-step to enable you to reach a passing grade. I have included all the education, tools, and practice you will need to be successful, and nothing you don't need.

By giving exam writers a lot of practice doing mock exams, which aim to mimic the exam format and difficulty, students are able to easily identify and correct any areas of weakness.

Recognizing that about 1/3 of exam writers are not born in Canada and may speak English as a second language, I've intentionally made this course easy to understand and follow.

I am a P.Eng. in Alberta and you can connect with me anytime through our contact page.

Our philosophy

Every aspiring engineer deserves to pass their NPPE with a moderate amount of studying and the use of our step-by-step course.

Click on your Association name to learn about any variations apply to your exam.

All these associations write the basic 110 question NPPE and will make great use of our course for their exam prep.

An extra 10 PEO-specific questions are added to the NPPE making it 120 for PEO writers. We've developed a comprehensive mindmap and have added 30-specific PEO questions to help you learn and test your knowledge on Ontario-related questions.

An extra hour essay session is added to the end of the NPPE for EGBC writers. We've developed 12 essay questions along with our suggested solutions to help you with this additional component.

An extra hour essay session is added to the end of the NPPE for APEGS writers. We've developed 7 essay questions along with our suggested solutions to help you with this additional component.  We also have a Saskatchewan-specific mind map to help you navigate province-specific topics.

NPPE Exam Course Information

What's covered?

Using a variety of learning methods, this course will build your foundation of knowledge on ethics, law and professional practice topics.
In fact, the entire 40 NPPE exam syllabus topics are covered under the 6 major categories:
• I. Professionalism - All 4 sub-topics covered ― • II. Ethics - All 4 sub-topics covered ― • III. Professional Practice - All 10 sub-topics covered ― • IV. Law for Professional Practice - All 14 sub-topics covered ― • V. Professional Law - All 4 sub-topics covered ― • VI. Regulation of Members & Discipline Processes - All 4 sub-topics covered
In the course, you will learn each topic as you move through the 8-steps. Flashcards, a cheat sheet, video presentations, a quiz and a bank of practice questions are available to you to help you learn the content in different ways.
This proven method of teaching produces much higher information retention rates compared to the exam writer who tries to self-study the material.

What are the requirements?

Each student needs an internet connection and a computer. Owning the law and ethics textbooks is optional since we also provide links to trustworthy websites when we need to refer you to places for additional reading.

How was the course designed?

Through this course, along with the others on this site, I have helped thousands of aspiring engineers overcome their licensing hurdles.  This course has been updated and refined over the years to ensure it remains:

1. Current with the exam scope and your associations testing requirements.

2. Comprehensive by covering all topics on the exam.

3. Simple to follow. Just 8-steps in the course laid out on one membership page.
Also, when updating the course, I always reach out to existing and past students to find out what they found challenging about studying for the exam in order to make meaningful updates and improvements.

What am I going to learn from this course?

You will understand all 40 syllabus topics that relate to your NPPE and be better prepared to pass your exam. Since the exam simulator will mark your practice exam and give you a score and feedback, you'll know right away the topics that you understand and those that you need to focus more time on.

Your Roadmap to NPPE Exam Success

Register for exam & order this course

After you register for the exam, download the supplemental material from your Association. Order the law & ethics textbooks (optional) and sign up for this NPPE exam course.

Build & develop your knowledge

We focus each step in the course on a single syllabus topic. Learn in different ways with our presentation, mind map, flaschards, questions and answer video and advancing to next step quiz.

Continue your learning & exam simulation

Watch over 3 hours of recorded presentations where I go through all 40 syllabus topics, one slide per topic. Then test your knowledge with dozens of multiple choice questions in our question pool.

Re-review

Based on your exam results, you should know your weakest topics. To improve in those areas, go back to earlier steps in the course to review the syllabus reading sections, educational presentations and flashcard tool to deepen your knowledge. Then try more of our practice questions. Repeat this step until you feel confident.

Write the exam

Now that you're fully prepared, arrive early and bring 1 piece of photo ID and your member # or admission ticket. Wait 2-3 weeks for your results.
