No. APEGA, who develops the NPPE questions for all participating provinces, has confirmed with us that the exam is based on a body of knowledge and not on the recommended textbooks. We have designed our course in a way that you don't need the texts since we provide URLs when we need to refer you to additional reading. However, if you have the books or plan to buy them, that works since we also provide the textbook page or section numbers. If you're not sure about purchasing the books, we recommend getting started without the textbooks as they can always be ordered later.

Yes, while our course includes URLs to trustworthy websites making the textbooks optional, the course references the textbook page numbers should you wish to dig deeper into a particular topic.  The course references the two lastest versions of both books:

• "Ethics" book - Canadian Professional Engineering and Geoscience: 6th and 5th edition. You can use either one.
• "Law" book - Practical Law of Architecture, Engineering, and Geoscience 3rd and 2nd edition. You can use either one.  Please note that for PEO applicants, PEO also lists the book "Law for Professional Engineers, Canadian and Global Insights" by  D.L. Marston as an recommended law book.  We don't refer to this book in the course since we believe the former textbook, by Brian M. Samuels and Doug R. Sanders, does a better job of aligning with the syllabus topics.

An internet connection is required.   A laptop or desktop size screen is recommended as this is what you will be using at the testing centre; it is also better for viewing PDF files, using the exam simulator, flipping the flashcards, etc. The embedded videos and modules work on all modern browsers.

You can go through the course at any speed you like.  It is an 8-step, self-paced, on-demand course.  All of the content is there waiting for you to interact with.  With 3, 6 or 12 months of access, you can use it for the entire duration or as a last-minute study aid.  In step 0.3 of the course, we provide you with several suggested plans for the following durations – 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, and 5+ weeks.  Simply start with the plan closest to your remaining duration and then adjust it accordingly. If possible, get started as early as possible, making the course more enjoyable, and you'll retain more knowledge.

No.  You can use the exam simulator as much as you want. 

Yes. Sometimes life throws you a curveball and you become unable to attend your exam and need to reschedule it later. Because this could happen to anyone, I will personally send you an email 1 week prior to when your course access expires to offer you a 4-month renewal for just $55 + tax (which helps me cover basic costs for things like the hosting of e-learning content and email support).

I have found that course providers that encourage their customers to publish their reviews online make the best courses in any market. This is because the course creator has to continually improve and update his/her course to ensure clients are happy and their improvement suggestions are integrated. It is a lot more work, but in the end, you (the aspiring professional) receive a much better learning experience.
