If you're writing the NPPE, don't stress about exam day. Instead, use these tips to show up prepared.
If you still need an overview of dates, format, and syllabus, start with our NPPE exam guide (dates, format & study plan).

- Have a medical condition that affects test-taking? Contact your association as early as possible — they may grant accommodations such as extended time, additional breaks, or a reduced-distraction environment. Requests typically require documentation, so don't leave this to the last minute.
- Confirm your exam seat with Meazure Learning. Registering with your regulator is not enough. You'll receive a booking email from Meazure Learning 3–4 weeks before your exam — you must confirm your date and time through that email. If you miss it, you'll be marked as a Withdrawal and your fee is forfeited.
- Use a personal computer, not a work computer. Work computers and work networks often have firewalls or software restrictions that can prevent the exam from running. If you have to reschedule because of this, you'll be charged the full exam fee again. Take the exam from home where you control the setup.
- Run the computer readiness check before exam day. All candidates must pass a pre-exam system check on the device they'll use. If you fail this check on exam day, your registration may be cancelled. Run it early — well before exam day — so you have time to fix any issues. You can review the latest technical requirements on the
official NPPE testing system requirements page.
- Install the Guardian Secure Browser (and use Google Chrome). The exam runs through the Guardian Secure Browser via Google Chrome — both are required. Install and test Guardian ahead of time. Note: the actual exam program cannot be downloaded until exam day, but you can verify everything else is ready.
- NEW (June 2026+): Have a smartphone or tablet ready as a second camera. To enhance exam security, candidates are now required to use a smartphone or tablet as a secondary camera during the exam. Have it charged and available before you log in.

- Choose a quiet workspace with zero distractions. A dedicated, interruption-free room is essential. Remove anything from the desk that isn't permitted, and let others in your home know not to disturb you for the duration of the exam (2.5 hours).
- Use an ethernet connection (aim for 10 Mbps+), if possible. A wired connection is significantly more stable than Wi-Fi and reduces the risk of connection issues mid-exam. Have your laptop plugged into power as well.
- Have a government-issued photo ID ready. A driver's licence or passport works. You'll need it for identity verification before the exam begins.
- Log in 15 minutes early. Early login gives you time to complete identity verification, the room scan, and any last-minute checks without cutting into your exam time.
- Bring only a clear water bottle. It's the only item permitted at your workspace. Notes and pens are not allowed.
- One comfort break is allowed — but the timer keeps running. Plan accordingly. You cannot pause the clock.
- Only ONE monitor is permitted. Multiple screens are prohibited during the exam.
- Report ANY technical issues to your proctor immediately — same day. Issues reported after your exam session is over are extremely difficult to resolve. If something goes wrong, escalate it to your proctor while you're still in the session. Don't wait.
- The passing score is 65 (equated). The exam is 100 multiple-choice questions plus 10 unscored experimental questions, with 2.5 hours to complete it. You can use our NPPE exam results calculator to get a feel for how many correct answers you may need.
- Results come in 2–3 weeks. No numerical score is provided to candidates who pass and a score breakdown is provided if you fail in the form of a mastery report.
