Here are our questions for this month:
Q1: How can engineering firms better support work-life balance for their employees?
OR
Q2: What role should engineers play in advocating for climate-resilient infrastructure amid economic diversification efforts?
Q1 Ans. is: Engineering firms can support work-life balance by offering flexible work option if the employees can work from home, mental health support, and reasonable project deadlines. This will minimize the burn out that people are facing.
Q1: How can engineering firms better support work-life balance for their employees?
Now THIS is a loaded question. I feel like it can be easy to talk about work-life balance, but actually supporting and encouraging it is the tough part! I personally try to promote it, but struggle to implement it myself. I think supporting flexible work (e.g. WFH), having conversations about it, and what it could look like; encouraging switching off for the night; not having expectations to respond to emails at night; emphasizing that my schedule is not yours; scheduling emails to send at 8am instead of when you are working on them at 8pm; living that and encouraging by example.
