Nannette Ho-Covernton, P.Eng., is the recipient of the 2024 APEGA Women in Engineering and Geoscience Champion Award. This award is presented to an individual, team, or organization that supports women in engineering and geoscience with diversity initiatives and inspirational support. Ho-Covernton is the sustainability lead for Spartan Controls and is known for driving a global clean-energy future through scientific, technical, and creative ecosystem leadership. She has changed the face of Canadian energy to be more inclusive, kind, and innovative through her contributions to advancing youth and women in STEM leadership. Ho-Covernton has also helped spearhead Spartan's annual science outreach competition, VirtualSTEM, which aims to attract youth—particularly girls—into engineering and technology.
- Dr. Min Xia, a Western University Mechanical and Materials Engineering professor, received the 2024 IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Outstanding Young Engineer Award. This award acknowledges his AI and digital technology expertise, enabling collaborations with academic and industrial partners to address digital transformation challenges in various sectors. Xia has led 15 research projects, securing over $19 million CAD in funding, and has published over 90 papers. He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mechatronic Systems and Control and holds editorial positions in other journals.
