Here is your monthly dose of my Canadian engineering news created for licensed and aspiring engineers, geoscientists and technicians in Canada. Stay informed and impress your colleagues with your new-found knowledge.
- Engineer and Researcher Rosalind Picard has developed a wristband that can detect changes in human emotions and brain behaviour. This wristband is extremely helpful for detecting convulsive seizures, with the potential to detect non-convulsive seizures as well.
- Professor Michael McAlpine and his team at Princeton University created a 3D printable sensor that could give feeling to prosthetic limbs and surgical robots. This could lead to doctors and surgical robots being able to feel what they are doing in a minimally invasive surgery, or people who have prosthetics to be able to feel sensations in their prosthetics.
- Tempist CRT1: Based in Ontario, Tempist makes electric bikes inspired by motorcycles. This bike is equipped with a coloured LED screen, removable battery, and LED headlights and brake lights. A unique change from standard bikes!
- Felik - Intelligent Pet Companion: Based in Seattle, WA, this unique technology plays with your pets while you are away! Zero interaction is required. This technology senses where your pet is and reacts to produce quality play time!
- DFRobot's BOSON Kit - Powerful Building Blocks For Lego Stem: These Lego-like blocks are electrically run. They are made for young, aspiring inventors. With built-in magnets, these modules take a complex building and make it simplistic and easy to understand.
What technology or gadget are you currently enjoying and would recommend to other aspiring and licensed engineers? Let us know in the comments below.
