- Donna Strickland has become the first woman in 55 years to win the Nobel Prize in Physics. She is an associate professor at the University of Waterloo and the third ever to win the prize.
- Daren Makuck, a former Google software engineer took a 50% pay decrease to work at startup Qwil and says he doesn’t regret it.
- YoungBoard is an ecofriendly skateboard that runs on solar energy with a charge time of only 4 hours. The board made of bamboo, maple, and carbon fiber has a range of up to 16km.
- proPCR is intended to simplify experiments and make learning about genetics easier and accessible to all. The device is Wi-Fi enabled and can be used with your smartphone, tablet or laptop.
- Wheelchair World is an app designed to make travelling easier for those in wheelchairs by supplying reliable information about whether destinations are suitable.
