- Elena Rodriguez-Falcon, a mechanical engineer, is opening an engineering university in Hereford that will prioritize recruiting equal numbers of women and men, and make arts classes mandatory to educate “humanist” engineers.
- Chelsea Benally, the first Indigenous woman to earn a PhD in engineering at the University of Alberta, is working on new ways to treat toxic byproducts that result from extracting bitumen from oil sands.
- Muhafiz-Air is a portable device that monitors the air quality around you. It uses artificial intelligence, sensors, and a signal processing algorithm to monitor carbon dioxide, mold particles, and airborne chemicals, among other things in the air you breath.
- Drill Turbine is a new wind turbine equipped with usb charging ports, headlights and a 10,000 mAh Lithium-ion power bank. It can easily be attached to your bike handle bars and can charge your smartphone.
- Hempcrete is a new replacement for insulation and concrete that is cheap, recyclable, reusable, anti fungal, and anti microbial. The company hopes to use the material to help create jobs and build homes in areas of severe poverty.
